Former Sparks Resident Releases Much Anticipated Debut Novel
Texie Susan Gregory Launches Meet and Greet Book Signing Tour in Reno, Nevada
(Reno, Nev., November 1, 2016) – Author Texie Susan Gregory returns to Northern Nevada to hold a meet and greet, and book signing event on November 5th, 2016. The event will be held at Barnes & Nobel Booksellers, 5555 S Virginia Street, Reno, Nevada, from 1:00 pm till 3:00 pm. The event will highlight Gregory’s debut novel, Slender Reeds: Jochebed’s Hope.
Slender Reeds, a fictional novel based on biblical events, is about the impact that a mother’s words and actions have on her children and future generations. In this story, Jochebed, a Hebrew slave who will eventually give birth to Moses, and Shiphrah, an Egyptian midwife, struggle against insurmountable obstacles to trust the unseen god, YHWH. Set against the darkness of Egypt at its blazing height–the reign of Ramses the Great–these ordinary women are woven into God’s redemptive plan for the people of Israel. And the world.
Texie Susan Gregory, a former resident of Sparks, Nevada, holds a master’s in Counseling from ASU and a master’s in Religious Education from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. An accomplished public speaker, Gregory has spoken at women’s retreats, MOPS meetings (Mothers of Preschoolers), and various Tres Dias events.
A breast cancer survivor, Gregory is an inspiration to others struggling with the disease. Gregory’s journey through treatment and chemotherapy was documented by news anchor, Edie Lambert of KCRA-TV Sacramento. ‘Susan’s Story; A Message of Hope’, the acclaimed video journal of her battle, received a regional Emmy in 2004, and encouraged Gregory to follow her dream of becoming a novelist. A second documentary by KVIE, ‘Breast Cancer; Strength and Courage’ also won a regional Emmy. Slender Reeds: Jochebed’s Hope is Gregory’s debut novel (release: November 1, 2016) and sure to be well received by critics and readers.
An early draft of Slender Reeds was awarded the Beverly Bush Smith Writer Award at the Orange County Christian Writer’s Conference, and fiction first place in an Inspire to Write Conference.
Commenting on her new book, Gregory said, “This project is a dream come true. I am excited by the opportunity to remind women of their influence. Motherhood is a gift. And with that gift comes the need to understand the impact our words and actions have on our children, grandchildren and future generations.”

Mike Pavlakis, partner with Allison MacKenzie Law Firm, recently took a look at the Affordable Healthcare Act and its impact on Nevada residents. His article for Northern Nevada Business Weekly was well received by the community. We appreciate Mr. Pavlakis’ insight and ability to provide the reader with easy to digest information regarding the legal climate of healthcare and its effect on individuals and local businesses.
“Affordable health care for all Americans. A free and appropriate education for American children. Both are laudable goals. But what do these initiatives imply and how do they impact northern Nevada businesses and residents?
The Affordable Care Act was designed to require that each American is covered by health insurance. With this legislation, individuals are required to obtain coverage or pay a penalty, and large employers are required to offer affordable health plans that offer certain minimal coverage or face penalties. Further, insurance companies are required to provide coverage regardless of preexisting conditions, and parents are allowed to insure their children as dependents to age 26.”

Dr. Parsons and her friendly staff manage to put even the most anxious little patient, and their parents, at ease and manage to make dental care FUN!
Dr. Parsons is a strong proponent of good dental health and believes that the biggest obstacles for patients are appropriate treatment options and education on the importance of oral hygiene and its long-term effect on health. She grew up in Virginia City and has seen first hand the challenges associated with rural living and accessing dental care due to time constraints and distance to service providers. She feels that by properly engaging the entire family with fun, effective care and prevention strategies, parents and their children will be equipped to combat the daily distractions and challenges of dental care.
So we say, “Congrats Dr. Parsons!.” We couldn’t be more happy for you and your fabulous team at Valley Pediatric Dentistry.
